Simon J. Murphy

Who am I?

Thanks to The Rock for identifying the ship as the Simon J. Murphy. The ship was launched in 1900 in Wyandotte, Michigan. After 60 years of service, the Simon J. Murphy was scrapped.

Looks like the same Hutchinson Line freighter that's passing behind the barge in the October 5th picture.

That vessel, my friends, is the SIMON J MURPHY, She sailed for Hutchinson and like all of the Hutchinson boats, she was actually owned by the Buckeye S.S. Company. Buckeye's name appears on the hull below the MURPHY name.
I have but one,old black and white photo of the MURPHY,probably taken in the 50's.
